Server Virtualization · Los Angeles, CA
Design, migration, and ongoing management of VMware ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V servers for Los Angeles businesses, with monitoring, patching, and image-level backups built in.
Quick answer
Server virtualization runs several virtual servers (virtual machines) on one physical host using a hypervisor such as VMware ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V. Instead of one server per application, you get fewer, better-used machines that are easier to back up, move, and recover.
Los Angeles IT provides server virtualization services and virtual server management for Los Angeles businesses from our Century City headquarters: design, migrations, monitoring, patching, and backup. Projects are $95 per hour, and our managed IT plans start at $300/month including one server and one firewall.
What We Do
From a single Hyper-V host in a back office to a clustered VMware environment, we design, build, migrate, and manage virtual servers for small and mid-sized businesses.
New VMware ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V hosts designed, installed, and configured: hardware sizing, storage, networking, and virtual machines built for your workloads.
Server virtualization →/ 02Aging physical servers converted to virtual machines (physical-to-virtual) and consolidated onto fewer hosts, cutting hardware, power, and maintenance costs.
Consolidation →/ 03Host and VM health, storage, and capacity monitored with alerts; hypervisor, firmware, and Windows Server patches applied on a schedule.
Managed IT →/ 04Image-level backups of every virtual machine with offsite copies and test restores, plus the ability to boot a backup as a VM while a host is repaired.
Backup & recovery →/ 05Moves between hosts, storage, or hypervisors, including VMware to Hyper-V migrations for businesses rethinking VMware licensing costs.
Migrations →/ 06Replacing end-of-support Windows Server 2012 R2 and 2016 systems with current versions, including domain controllers, file servers, and app servers.
Server upgrades →/ 07Right-sizing CPU, memory, and storage, fixing slow VMs, and planning hardware refreshes before you run out of room.
Optimization →/ 08Moving some workloads to Azure or AWS, or extending on-premises servers to the cloud for backup, disaster recovery, or remote access.
Azure →/ 09Least-privilege admin access, MFA on management consoles, isolated management networks, and endpoint protection on every server.

How It Works
A typical project, whether you're virtualizing for the first time or replacing an aging host.
STEP 01
We inventory your servers, applications, storage, licensing, and backups, and flag anything at or near end of support.
STEP 02
We size the host or cluster, choose the hypervisor, plan storage and networking, and give you a fixed project quote.
STEP 03
We build the new environment, migrate servers after hours, test applications, and back everything up before cutover.
STEP 04
Ongoing monitoring, patching, backup checks, and capacity planning, hourly or as part of a managed IT plan.
Pricing
Virtualization projects (new hosts, P2V migrations, VMware to Hyper-V moves, and Windows Server upgrades) are $95 per hour and quoted up front after an assessment. Hardware, Windows Server licensing, and any hypervisor subscriptions are quoted separately at cost so you can see exactly what you're paying for.
For ongoing management, our managed IT services start at $300 per month and include one server and one firewall, with monitoring, patching, and backup checks. Additional servers and hosts are priced by the size of your environment.
Free Server Assessment
Tell us about your servers, hypervisor, and renewal dates. We'll review your setup and recommend the best path: upgrade, migrate, or manage. No contracts.
VMware Licensing
Since Broadcom acquired VMware, many small businesses have seen perpetual licenses replaced by subscription bundles and renewal quotes that cost far more than before. If your VMware renewal is coming up, it's worth comparing options before you sign.
We review your current environment and licensing, price out staying on VMware against moving to Microsoft Hyper-V (often already covered by your Windows Server licenses) or Proxmox VE, and handle the migration if switching makes sense. VMs are converted, tested, and backed up before cutover, with the old environment kept as a fallback until you're confident.
End of Support
Microsoft ends extended support for Windows Server 2016 on January 12, 2027, and Windows Server 2012 R2 is already past end of support. After that date there are no more security updates, which is a problem for cyber insurance, compliance, and any server that's reachable from the network.
Virtualization makes the upgrade easier: we build new Windows Server VMs alongside the old ones, migrate roles like Active Directory, file shares, and line-of-business applications, test, and retire the old servers. Some workloads move to Microsoft 365, Azure, or AWS instead.
Uptime & Recovery
One of the biggest benefits of virtualization is recovery. A virtual machine is a set of files, so it can be backed up as a whole, copied offsite, and restored or started on other hardware in far less time than rebuilding a physical server.
We pair every virtual environment with image-level backup and disaster recovery, snapshots for safe changes (removed promptly so they don't fill storage), and, for critical systems, a second host or replication so a hardware failure doesn't stop the business.
Local Server Experts
Most server problems eventually need someone on site: a failed drive, a host that won't boot, or a hardware swap. Los Angeles IT is a local server virtualization company with engineers in 10 hubs across LA County, so the team managing your virtual servers remotely can also be in your server room when it matters.
We provide virtual server management in Los Angeles, server virtualization solutions in Orange County, and VMware and Hyper-V support for offices across Southern California, often as part of a broader managed IT or network infrastructure project.

FAQ
Server virtualization runs multiple virtual servers on one physical host using a hypervisor like VMware ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V. Each virtual machine has its own operating system and applications, but they share the host's CPU, memory, and storage.
Fewer physical servers to buy, power, and maintain; faster backups and recovery because each server is a set of files; easier upgrades and migrations; and room to add new servers without new hardware.
For most Microsoft-centric small businesses, Hyper-V is the most cost-effective choice because it's included with Windows Server. VMware still makes sense for existing VMware environments and larger clusters. We compare both based on your servers, licensing, and budget.
Yes. We review your VMware environment and renewal costs, then migrate virtual machines to Hyper-V or Proxmox VE if it makes sense, testing each server and keeping a rollback plan until the move is confirmed.
Projects are $95 per hour and quoted up front after an assessment, with hardware and licensing quoted separately. Ongoing management is included in managed IT plans starting at $300 per month, which cover one server and one firewall.
Physical-to-virtual (P2V) migration converts an existing physical server into a virtual machine so it can run on a hypervisor host. It's a common way to retire old hardware without rebuilding the server from scratch.
Microsoft's extended support for Windows Server 2016 ends on January 12, 2027. After that, there are no security updates, so servers running it should be upgraded or replaced before then.
We use image-level backups of each virtual machine with a local copy for fast restores and an offsite copy for disasters, check jobs daily, and run test restores. Critical VMs can also be replicated to a second host.
No. Most small businesses run virtual servers on a host in their office or a data center. Some workloads move to Azure or AWS, and many businesses use a hybrid approach with cloud backup and disaster recovery.
Monitoring of hosts, VMs, storage, and backups; hypervisor, firmware, and Windows Server patching; capacity planning; troubleshooting; and security hardening of management access.
Yes. We can manage the virtual environment while your team handles day-to-day support, or take on specific projects like a host refresh or migration as co-managed support.
